Citadel Band On The Run

Everyone’s been hard at work preparing for the LP release of Loney Dear’s Citadel Band.

Emil added a new arrangement to one song and Golden Mastering remastered the whole album.

And since it’s the first time the album’s going to be available on vinyl, we had some kinks to work out with the test pressings — and then some more kinks, and then a few more.

But everything sounds great now and the records were delivered to our office this morning!

United Record Pressing was so happy with how the color turned out, they sent us a picture to show the vinyl being made.

Now I just have to start packing the pre-orders…

Tour Support = Your Support

I’ve blogged before (here and here) about our involvement with Kickstarter and today the website’s “Project of the Day” features our very own Asobi Seksu!

The NY-based band was offered the opportunity to tour the UK with White Lies later this month and into December. Of course, Yuki and James (Asobi’s core members) are doing the tour more for the exposure than any sort of financial gain. In fact, they stand to lose a lot of money from their trip overseas.

Which is why they’re asking for your help. In return for pledges, Asobi Seksu is offering a lot of great rewards — including Rewolf download codes, signed posters and records, liner notes shout outs and unique handscreened t-shirts.

Matt (PV’s co-owner) rolls into the office at least two or three times a month wearing his and Adam tells me we’ll be getting them for the E-store within a couple weeks.

Japandroids - Rockers East Vancouver

I wanted to post Adam’s favorite blink-182 song (“Adam’s Song,” of course!), but since we couldn’t secure the rights I let him choose his favorite Japandroids track instead.

Hoppus Hears A...

One of my personal favorite musicians — Mark Hoppus (blink-182, +44) — now has a weekly feature on Spin.com called Hopp on Pop (apparently someone over there’s been reading a little too much Dr. Suess) where he highlights his favorite up-and-coming band.

To start things off he chose two more of my personal favorite musicians — the dudes in Japandroids. Click here to read what he had to say.

Hints From Heloise...Err..Polyvinyl

Today, Danielle and I took a trip to the Champaign News-Gazette printing warehouse (a few blocks down from the PV office) to grab several newspaper end rolls.

They’re great to use as packing material for big shipments — and for rolling our enormous 48” x 36” of Montreal horse posters (check one out here).

And the best part is, newspapers give them away for free. Just a little helpful tip for anybody who could use a lot of paper without spending a lot of paper.

matt pond PA - Halloween

It’s both a trick and a treat — a beautiful song for listening to on a fall day, but also a little deceptive since it has nothing to do with the holiday it’s named after. In fact, Alternative Press just called out “Halloween” on its list of “10 Essential Massively Misleading Song Titles.”

Happy Halloween!

Spooky, scary…

Halloween is one of everybody’s favorite holidays here at Polyvinyl. Case in point: it’s barely even afternoon and we’ve already listened to “Monster Mash” twice.

We even got a surprise visit from Pee Wee Herman (even though he looks suspiciously like Danielle):

I didn’t dress up (lame, I know), but I did paint pumpkins with my girlfriend:

Hope everybody has a great Halloween weekend!

CMJ: A Picture Perfect Night

As if I wasn’t already bummed enough that I had to miss what was apparently an insane CMJ showcase (including Owen performing as Oasis — what?? — and our publicist Seth crowd surfing — double what??) Andy finally recovered enough from the night to send me these stellar pictures he shot. Take a look!

Cale Parks

Owen (or should I say, Liam Gallagher)

Japandroids

CMJ 2009

Seth and Andy are flying cross-country tomorrow morning for the Polyvinyl CMJ Showcase in NYC. I know Andy is stoked to see Cale Parks and all our other great bands playing the festival, including James Husband, Headlights, Owen (featuring Mike playing an electric guitar while backed by a full band) and Japandroids.

If you’re going to be in the city that never sleeps this weekend, be sure to stop by the Bell House in Brooklyn on Friday. Get there early because doors open at 6 and stay late for a DJ set by Asobi Seksu after the concert.

My whole family’s from the borough, but I can’t go so say “Hi” to my grandparents for me!
