Retail manager Michael, part-time mailorder helper Ryan, and intern Aaron all performed Tuesday at the annual Champaign Great Cover-Up, a charity event where local bands spend a set masquerading as another (more famous) band.
This year, Michael got be a member of the Specials and I saw a ska band live for only the second time ever.
One of us was definitely more happy about their milestone than the other.

Best of 2011 (Polyvinyl Style)

Yeah, yeah, we know everyone and their cat has a list of their top things from the past year. And, well, that’s exactly why we wanted to join in the fun, too!

Click here to find out which albums, bands, events, and colors of vinyl made 2011 a great year for the entire PV staff (be sure to click “More” toward the bottom to get the full list).

And if you’re into pop-punk and the like, you can check out my extended list in the comments. Giving myself preferential treatment because I run the Tumblr is an unwritten “honorable mention.”

Even though Danielle’s re-located to St. Louis, she still surprised us with some awesome holiday gifts.
In addition to a box full of sugar cookies, she made little gingerbread versions of everybody at Polyvinyl! Check out ours above and San Francisco’s here.
If you’re wondering, we’re all holding tiny vinyl records.
If you’re wondering part 2: Michael is obsessed with The Clash, but I’m wearing a WHY? shirt because Danielle used to listen to them nonstop in the office and it drove me crazy. Come to think of it, Michael also does that with The Clash.
Thanks, Danielle!

As year-end lists start to appear everywhere across the Internet, we couldn’t help but notice that Trump Harm (the latest release from 31Knots) popped up on Pitchfork’s Worst Album Covers of the Year.
We thought we’d embrace this uh…honor by having our design intern Tim create a background image for one of our office computers based on the artwork.
And of course, this being the holiday season, we couldn’t keep such a treat to ourselves so we’ve made it available for free download (right click -> save as).
Enjoy!
