Testing 1-2-3
Over the past few days, we’ve been listening to a lot of test pressings for the of Montreal vinyl re-issues. This project has been in the works for about a year and after having to buy a new office record player (because our old needle scratched a couple of records) everything is back on track. I never really listened to of Montreal before working at Polyvinyl, so albums like Coquelicot,...

Fort Austin
I didn’t want to overshadow the new Owen song (still streaming below) so I’ve been holding off from revealing the only known pictures of Fort Austin — a front office stronghold constructed circa July 2009 AD around the desk of Colonel Adam. The 925 pound structure was built by the renowned architect Intern Chris using only 30 count boxes containing Kickstarter pledge...

Phat Sandwich
After weeks of debate and people backing out (*cough*Adam*cough*), Danielle, Megan, Matt and I finally got the 4 for $20 deal at Fat Sandwich. If you haven’t heard of it, I would say it’s the kind of place that’s perfect for a college town — where there’s a lot of people who are really hungry and will eat anything after a late night at the…library. Basically,...

Softball Blues
Danielle and I play on a slow-pitch softball team in the Champaign Rec League every Thursday. We had a good start tonight, but ended up losing again. For the tenth time in a row. Looks like we might have to change our name to the Bad News Bears…

Happy Birthday To You
Today is Adam’s birthday. Danielle (our retail sales liaison/primary website model) made a cake to celebrate. We only put one candle on it because we were afraid the office might burn down if we lit the true number :-) I forgot to get him something so I hope this post counts as a gift. Happy birthday, man!

Kickstart My Heart
Looks like the time has finally come! We launched our first Kickstarter project back in May to save a bunch of records from getting destroyed and now — after two months, almost 400 backers and having successfully met our goal — we’re ready to ship out all the packages our awesome supporters pledged money for. Our intern crew has been furiously packing boxes full of CDs over...

P4K - Day 3
Well, the long weekend’s finally over — but it definitely ended with a bang. Japandroids rocked. Hard. A lot of people came up to the table after the set saying how the band had won them over. And even though I was already a fan, seeing them live was like hearing them for the first time all over again. Pitchfork was just the beginning of the duo’s fall tour, so be sure to...

P4K - Day 2
Went to The Billy Goat Tavern (made famous by an old SNL skit) after the show ended yesterday and then again today for lunch. I think it’s pretty funny for a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan like me to be eating at a place named after the animal supposedly responsible for the Cubs’ playoff curse. The Cheezborger! Cheezborger! was delicious. Long day today — worked 12 hours from...

P4K - Day 1
This is my second year working the Polyvinyl merch table at Pitchfork so I thought I’d be better prepared this time around, but I definitely should’ve traded the sunblock for a sweashirt. Tonight was cold, but the crowd was good. Sold a lot of Japandroids vinyl and of Montreal Skeletal Lamping lanterns. Here’s two of my co-workers for the festival. On the left is Alex, our...

P4K Festival!
Packing for Pitchfork — it’ll be nice to get out of the air conditioned office and into the hot Midwestern sun for ten hours a day. Oh wait… Better not forget the sunblock!
